The Philips Lumea IPL hair removal device can be used without the need for any gel or cream. It is advised to shave 24 hours before treatment and to have recently showered. The bikini attachment can be used on legs, but there may be a variation in the flashing signals. The light pulses from the device are not measured in J/cm, and are described as being a bit painful on dark areas and less painful for the rest of the body. The adapter makes it possible to use the device in both the US and the UK. The Lumea needs a flat contact surface to work and would not work uniformly on the curved surface of the forehead. People under the age of 18 should not use the device. There were some negative reviews regarding the device's effectiveness, with one customer stating that it did not work in slightly dark areas, despite being advertised as working.
